Carsten Höller

Dates
05.05.2011 | 08.07.2011
Location
Massimo De Carlo, Milano

Massimo De Carlo opens Carsten Höller’s solo show Animals Works. One of the world's most well known and respected artists returns to Milan with a site specific project that tracks the artist’s interest in the animal kingdom. With a degree in Agronomy, specialised in Phytopathology and a thesis on insect olfactory communication, Carsten Höller conquered the art world during the nineties. He employs a pseudo-scientific approach to investigating objective reality and its perception; disorientation is an intrinsic component of his work.

Carsten Höller

Carsten Höller was born in Brussels in 1961 to German parents, he now lives and works between Stockholm, Sweden and Biriwa, Ghana.

He uses his training as a scientist in his work as an artist, concentrating particularly on the nature of human relationships.Through his installations, he induces states of confusion and doubt but also excitement and delight in the audience. Despite being elusive in many ways, Höller intentionally fosters a sense of perplexity, often resulting in diverse and even contradictory interpretations of his work.

Höller’s work is in the permanent collections of the Centre Pompidou di Parigi; Fondazione Prada, Milan; Tate Collection, London; Luma Foundation, Arles.
