This exhibition space, the second Massimo De Carlo venue in Milan, is situated in Palazzo Belgioioso in the historical centre of Milan, just around the corner from Piazza del Duomo and the Teatro alla Scala.
The spectacular palazzo that houses this new gallery was completed in 1787 by Giuseppe Piermarini, who also designed La Scala Theatre.
Palazzo Belgioioso is an archetypal neoclassical Milanese architecture. The stunning palazzo is the former library of the Belgioioso family and was ultimated in 1787 by Giuseppe Piermarini, the Architect of Teatro Alla Scala, who is largely responsible for the naissance of neo-classical architecture in Milan. The highly decorated rooms can boast the presence of some of the most erudite minds of the eighteenth-century. The interiors were realised by the talented practitioners, Giacomo Albertolli and Martin Knoller. The façade of the palace overlooks a beguiling piazza that additionally hosts the Casa Manzoni, birthplace of the renowned Italian writer Alessandro Manzoni.
