Michael Elmgreen è nato nel 1961 a Copenaghen, in Danimarca; Ingar Dragset è nato nel 1969 a Trondheim, Norvegia; lavorano come duo di artisti dal 1995. Vivono e lavorano a Berlino. Con l'intento di svelare e ridefinire il mondo dell'arte, le sue istituzioni culturali e la loro fruizione da parte del pubblico, Elmgreen & Dragset traggono ispirazione dal mondo quotidiano, criticando attraverso un forte e inquietante senso dell'umorismo la struttura sociale e politica contemporanea. Sono noti per le loro numerose installazioni architettoniche e performative pubbliche, tra cui Prada Marfa, un negozio Prada situato nel mezzo del deserto del Texas realizzato nel 2005, e Short Cut, dove nel 2003 spuntavano due auto dalla Galleria Vittorio Emanuele di Milano , prodotto insieme alla Fondazione Nicola Trussardi. Elmgreen & Dragset sfidano costantemente il loro pubblico e il suo immaginario attraverso la creazione di immagini tanto scioccanti quanto spettacolari.

Elmgreen & Dragset were appointed curators of the 15th Istanbul Biennial (2017). They were awarded a Special Mention at the 53rd Venice Biennale (2009) for The Collectors at the Danish and Nordic Pavilions and won the prestigious Preis der Nationalgalerie für Junge Kunst at Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin (2002).
