Rob Pruitt
Rob Pruitt è nato a Washington DC nel 1964 e ha studiato al Corcoran College of Art and Design di Washington DC e alla Parsons School of Design di New York. Vive e lavora a New York.
Dall'inizio degli anni Novanta, le ricerche provocatorie di Rob Pruitt sulla cultura popolare americana hanno assunto diverse forme. Dal celebre Cocaine Buffet (1998) ai ritratti glitterati di panda o alla significativa serie dei Suicide Paintings, le opere di Pruitt sono un'interpretazione surreale e stravagante del mondo pop, uno sguardo caleidoscopico sulla cultura di massa che esplora gli aspetti multipli e i paradossi del nostro tempo.
Nel corso della sua carriera, Rob Pruitt ha approfondito la sua capacità di esprimere idee complesse sulla cultura e sulla società attraverso la reinterpretazione di oggetti e materiali comuni con un grande umorismo e spiccata ironia. Con la serie Mask, l'artista continua a cercare di rappresentare la profondità dell’animo umano e delle emozioni. I gesti facciali sono infatti incisi sulla tela con un rasoio - distruttivi e creativi allo stesso tempo - si combinano in un insieme di sfumature, motivi e stampe per creare un personaggio
